The Dendrite Arbor of Purkinje Cells Is Altered Following to Tail Regeneration in the Leopard Gecko

Abstract Purkinje cells of the cerebellum have a complex arborized arrangement dendrites and are among most distinctive cell types nervous system. Although neuromorphology has been well described for some mammals teleost fish, vertebrates less is known. Here we used modified Golgi–Cox method to investigate from lizard Eublepharis macularius, leopard gecko. Using Sholl Branch Structure Analyses, sought whether gecko was altered in response tail loss regeneration. Tail an evolved mechanism commonly by geckos escape predation. Loss represents significant sudden change body length mass, which only partially recovered as regenerated. We predicted that regeneration would induce quantifiable dendrite arborization. Post hoc comparisons analyses data showed with regenerated tails changes diameter number intersections regions corresponding position parallel fiber synapses. propose neuromorphological alterations observed represent compensatory regrowth, perhaps role motor learning.
